Rules of the Dance Floor

When you join a dance studio in Apopka to learn how to dance, you need to understand that there is a certain level of etiquette that is expected from you. These rules or code of conduct are there to help you stay safe while dancing and give everyone else a chance to learn and achieve their goals. In order to get the most out of your time as a dancer, here are some tips to follow:

Dress appropriately

Your dressing is determined by the style of dancing you are learning. There is usually a dress code for each dance style, and this provides a standard of how you should look in a class. The dress code is enforced so that you would be able to dance freely and to the best of your abilities. Non-dance shoes, food, beverages except water are usually prohibited from a dance floor. Be sure to be conversant with the dress code of your dance studio in Apopka as they vary from each other.

Listen to your instructor

You are the student and while you also have opinions and questions of your own, you should stay quiet during lessons. Keep eye contact with your instructor to let them know that you are paying attention. When the instructor shares information or correction, be sure to grasp what is meant for you. Do not speak out of turn during dance classes or engage in side conversations that could be distracting other students. Respect those in the class.

Pay attention to your body language

The way you stand and move as a dancer tells a story. In fact, your body is a storytelling tool as a dance so when you have your arms crossed and face frowned, be sure that it immediately lets the teacher know that something is wrong. Staring blankly and sinking to your hips is an indication of disinterest and should be avoided as it passes the wrong message to others. Stand erect, be relaxed and keep your eyes open. Smile as much as you can.

Learn to follow

Sometimes you may be more knowledgeable than others in your class and so have an advantage during some lessons. This does not mean that you should then act in a manner than belittles others who are just learning. On the other hand, if you are new and there are other who are older and more experienced than you, you should also let them take the lead and learn from them. Dancing takes a long time to perfect, but it is a combination of talent, determination and temperament. Put yourself in the best frame of mind to learn from not only your instructor but your fellow students. Lead when you need to and follow when you need to.
